How to Feel a Little More Relaxed Every Day?

Hello,

After we talked about sleep, nutrition, movement, and breathing - it's time to talk about something that's a bit hard to define, but we all feel when it's there.

Serenity.

Yes, that pleasant feeling of inner quiet, when everything somehow falls into place, even if the world around us isn't perfect.

It doesn't necessarily mean everything is calm, rather that we are calm within it.

Accepting it as it is.

Think of a moment like that in your life - maybe at the sea, in the forest, on a hike, or after a good conversation.

There are moments when the body, heart, and mind synchronize, and everything feels simply… right.

What does science say about serenity?

Studies show that a sustained sense of calm directly affects the nervous system, heart and brain activity, and our ability to cope with challenges.

When we experience serenity, calming hormones like oxytocin and serotonin rise, while stress hormones, like cortisol, adrenaline, and noradrenaline decrease.

This isn't "just in your head" - it's a real biological response of the body to inner calm.

What does Chinese medicine say about serenity?

Serenity is directly connected to the heart - not just as a physical organ, but as the place where the Shen resides - the spirit, consciousness, our inner spark.

When we're flooded with thoughts or emotions, the Shen scatters and the heart "loses its home."

But when the heart is calm, the Shen also rests, and quiet returns.

This is why acupuncture treatment can help not only the body, but also the emotions - It "organizes the home from within."

I like to tell patients that going to acupuncture is a bit like going to a psychologist, but skipping the talking stage.

It's a shortcut to exploring your emotions without talking.

A small exercise for daily serenity.

Try this now, or before sleep:

1️⃣ Sit comfortably and close your eyes.

2️⃣ Inhale slowly through your nose, and exhale slowly through your mouth - with the exhale twice as long as the inhale.

3️⃣ As you breathe out, imagine letting go of stress, worries, or tension. 4️⃣ Repeat this three times, then ask yourself: "How am I really doing right now?"

Just notice - give an answer without judgment.

A little story from the clinic

A few weeks ago, a young patient came in who said she "couldn't reach inner quiet."

She was always rushing – work, family, endless to-do lists.

After several treatments, she described how suddenly there are small moments during the day when she feels "simply relaxed."

Like an inner pause.

She didn't stop chasing after life – but life stopped chasing after her.

Tip for the coming week

Choose a moment in the day when you'll give yourself a minute of quiet.

Without a phone, without thoughts about "what's next."

Just be.

Maybe with a cup of tea, maybe in front of an open window.

Give your heart a little space to rest.

Serenity doesn't come from outside - it reappears when we give ourselves permission to stop.

And I invite you to do this this week, even if just for one moment.

Who knows?

Maybe you'll fall in love with the moment and turn it into a habit?

Wishing you a calm week, full of breath, compassion, and serenity,

Yours,

Zohar
